SUCCESS STORIES
Jim Loehr
Regional Manager (Minnesota, Illinois)
“It’s all about the ‘can-do’ attitude!” exclaims Jim Loehr, stationed out of his office in Minnesota. A self-confessed philosopher of sorts, Jim expounds:
“Sometimes when you think you’re stuck, you’re wrong. You just haven’t figured a way to get out yet. Sometimes, you even have to get stuck a little deeper before you can get out.”
Raised in an environment where he learned everyone has a responsibility to contribute to his or her community, Jim will always stop to help out others. “I know that next time, I’ll be the one stuck in need of help,” he notes.
Here’s another of Jim’s rules for life: “When an opportunity arrives, embrace it.”
And so he did “embrace” his opportunity years ago when joining NPL.
A “pipeliner” already for years, Jim was an avid outdoorsman determined to pursue his passion in Northern Minnesota. Sure enough, NPL had a foreman’s position available in the same area to which he planned on moving.
With any opportunity, there is always some risk . . .
Contributing to Jim’s success has been “my willingness to take risks,” he acknowledges. “I was given the opportunity to move to Arizona and help Mark Wambach start up the ‘Southwest Division’ and took it.”
After a decade in the desert, Jim’s readiness to embrace new opportunity took him to an NPL affiliate, Kowhutzun Pipeline, for four years, and to Northern California for one, and then he split time between Massachusetts and Virginia for two.
Eventually, he grew into his current position as Regional Manager for Minnesota and Illinois, which he has held for over 10 years.
Jim sees the “can-do attitude” firmly embraced in NPL’s Core Values . . .
“To be successful at NPL, live out the Core Values. You have got to do what you say you’re going to do . . . Integrity.” Also, “Admit mistakes. The Core Value that sticks out to me the most is, ‘Tell the Truth.’”
It’s no secret Jim loves working at NPL. “If I didn’t like working here, I wouldn’t do it. The people I work for know that, and the people that work for me know that. That makes me comfortable in my role here, and it helps everyone involved get things done most efficiently.”
Everyone’s involved – as a team. “Can-do” is maximized.
