“Leader” aptly describes Giff. “I was always a leader growing up. When we were kids, I was always the one who took charge.”
So the transition to becoming a leader in the business realm was a natural progression.
As a leader at NPL, “I get involved with my employees. I’m willing to really get down and fight alongside them through whatever obstacles may come. To me, it’s about our team . . .
“I like to make everyone realize they are a critical part of this team. We’re all here to get the same job done together. I make it clear that I’m doing everything I can to get the job done, and my guys do everything they can, too!”
Giff’s leadership is instinctive, steeped in being a “people person” and “relating to others” – those are key factors to his success, he explains.
“I respect what others have to offer,” he adds. “I learned early in my career that you can’t assume anything about anyone. It’s not good for business or one’s personal life.”
Challenging, yet realistic goals are another clear reason why Giff is able to relate so well to his employees . . . and why his areas do so well. “You have to know exactly what you’re demanding from your employees, or you’re setting yourself up for failure.”
Giff’s advice to any new employee is simple. “If you want to be successful at NPL, no matter where you start, there is definitely a long-term career for you. You can do it if you want.
“The only person who’ll put any limits on how far you grow is yourself. And once you’ve gotten your mind clear of any such obstacle, there’s no telling how far you’ll go.”
