SUCCESS STORIES

Duane Stott

Regional Manager

Duane Stott, who leads NPL operations in Southern California, got his start at the company 20 years as a laborer (much like everyone else in NPL’s management).

Why NPL? He had heard about its reputation for taking care of employees. “We have the best of the best at NPL because we treat everyone so well,” he says. “The veterans are here not because of the money, but because they appreciate the environment.”

When asked about success, Duane’s answer is immediate. “Opportunity. NPL has so much opportunity to offer. We have a goal to build a bigger and better company—it gives a great deal of opportunity to employees. The company is growing and needs more high performers to facilitate that growth. If NPL was a single little company in a small town without any vision, there wouldn’t be much room for growth.”

And at NPL, there’s been lots of growth. “NPL is the largest gas distribution contractor in the country . . . and is building on this base with a full line of turnkey energy and information systems services,” he explains.

Duane’s advice to any NPL employee is simple. “It all comes back to loyalty. You really have to ride for the ‘brand.’ If you’re focused on long-term success and achieving personal goals, then you’ve got a bright career ahead of you at NPL.”

Plus, “NPL’s culture is extremely supportive. Even when it comes to making a difficult decision, the resources you need are available. Aside from the help you may get from a supervisor, the Core Values are there. Any time a question or situation comes up you can turn to the Core Values and find an answer.”

Being on a “winning team” has been the biggest motivator for Duane while working at NPL. “Earlier in my career, I was more focused on working with the best company in the industry and that was my motivation. Now, I have the opportunity to keep NPL at its place as the industry leader, and that is all the motivation I could ever need.”

While motivated as a winner, Duane is quick to add that what he likes best about NPL is the “family mentality.” He explains, “Everyone, no matter what position, is a big part of the NPL family. When I started at NPL, I was welcomed into the NPL family and it really meant a lot to me. Now, it’s so great to be able to be a part of the welcoming crew. My goal is to make contact with as many people as I can – no matter what!

“The family environment has been wired into me from working at NPL and I really enjoy promoting that type of environment everyday.”
